The Whole Story
From Whence He Came
From Whence He Came is a horror film with a dark gruesome story of kidnappings and murder of randomly selected people by a deranged psychopath referred to as "Volnus"(Meaning "To wound" in Latin). The pre-title sequence places us in an empty darkened room with a single chair in the corner. His victim chained to said chair, beaten and bruised, is both physically and mentally tortured and Volnus taunts him, calling up the victims friend and taunting the friend also, before killing the chained up victim.
Several news reports are shown about "Volnus" and his several killings, showing interviews from the police and detectives. The main protagonist is introduced, a detective by the name of William White, preferably known as Will, who is the detective that this case is assigned to. He and his team are tasked with finding and unmasking Volnus to bring him to justice. He receives several messages recorded on tape from Volnus telling him to "Stay out of his way" and "Don't go any further or both you and your entire family will be my next targets". After several warnings in the forms of tapes, letters and one encounter, Volnus captures Will. Will is placed in a "Saw" like situation in a large building (Later found out to be an old insane asylum) where he has to manoeuvre his way around to attempt to escape. In certain areas, there are video recordings left for Will informing him of what is happening in the outside world while he is stuck in Volnus' grasp; mostly about the killings that Volnus is carrying out.
The entire facility is riddled with traps and tests that have been set to test how far Will will go to survive. Several jump scares have been set as well as several subordinates of Volnus that Will will have to get around and possibly kill.
After walking into an office, Will sees a man sat in a chair with a mask. The man, Volnus, explains to will how they are very similar. Just as Volnus has no problem killing people, Will had no problem killing Volnus' subordinates, who were regular people pulled off of the streets and brainwashed. In a blind rage, Will charges at Volnus and knocks him to the floor. Volnus quickly counters with a swift slash of a knife, and the two begin the final battle; hero versus villain. After a lengthy battle, Will finally emerges victorious by stabbing Volnus in the neck with his own knife, seemingly killing him.
Will then escapes the asylum and is reunited with his family. He is also awarded for his efforts in stopping the killings and is promoted to Chief Inspector. During his promotion ceremony, he is stood on stage and gives a lengthy speech about his experiences with Volnus, after which he sees someone (Volnus) in the crowd, who is then obscured by passing people and seemingly vanishes. Will simply assumes he imagined it. He later arrives home and finds a single message on his answering machine. He plays it and hears ear-splitting maniacal laughter before the message abruptly ends and the screen turns black.
