Horror/kidnap film research
By choosing the Horror genre of film, we were aware that we would have a large variety of other previously released films to research and pick idea's from to use in our film, while still having our own unique twist.
Although a rather unusual choice as it is not a horror film, Pain and Gain has a large part of the film based around keeping a man hostage. During this, the man is physically beaten and tied to a chair with a bag over his head, so he cannot see the captors. This links to the film we are creating as we also have a hostage situation where someone is tied to a chair and beaten. In Pain and Gain, the man has a bag over his head so he doesn't see the captors, which is similar to how our captor is wearing a mask so the hostage cannot see his face, creating a sense of fear.
Scream
Scream. One of the most iconic horror movies which will always be remembered for the mask. Just as the mask was important in Scream, the mask we use in our film will also be important. The mask in scream creates a sense of mystery, which also creates fear as we fear the unknown. The static expression of this mask adds to the fear factor of the film, as we hope the mask we use will also do.
The phone call in this film is what inspired us to include a phone call scene in ours. This film shows how a call can create tension and suspense, which i feel will slow down the pace even further when leading to the killing of the hostage.
